Earth from Space

See today's planet the way NASA satellites see it, from whole-Earth portraits to maps of where plants grow, fires burn, and algae bloom.

The whole Earth, from a million miles away

NASA's EPIC camera rides on the DSCOVR satellite, about 1.5 million km (1 million miles) from Earth, where it can see the whole sunlit side at once. It takes a new picture every hour or two.

Living planet map

Satellites measure plant growth, fires, ocean temperature, and ocean algae every day. Choose a layer, then zoom in on Mississippi, the Amazon, or the ocean.
